What is Roobix Cube's Family history?
His Sire is Gallo Del Cielo - aka "Rooster" - Read his story:
Lynn Anderson, the country music star, bought Rooster's mother, Doc's Starlight, from the owners of
Doc Bar for her then husband Spook Stream of Lake Charles,La. After a highly successful show career
in cutting competition they bred her to Peppy San Badger several times resulting in Grays Starlight,
named after Lynn's son, Bunny Starlight, named after Lynn's daughter, Gallo Del Cielo better known as
Rooster, Paddys Irish Whisky and Badger Starlight. I had spoken with Lynn about Rooster and she
informed me that Doc's Starlight was sold to Oxbow Ranch during her and Spook's divorce process and
that she did not know that the mare was bred. Rooster shows to be born in Weatherford Texas at Oxbow
Ranch. The name comes from a song about a Mexican fighting rooster. Gallo Del Cielo translates to
rooster from the sky (or heaven). If you can google gallo del cielo a number of singers are available to
watch on youtube. Frank Merrill of Windward Stud wanted to buy Rooster and partnered with Dan Lufkin
of Oxbow Ranch and Frank's cousin Peter Phinny and bought Rooster. Gary Bellenfant trained him and
won $28,437 in cutting competition. Polo Ranch owned Grays Starlight and were looking for another
stallion to stand. Rooster wasn't who we were looking for because it was the same bloodlines but after
seeing how beautiful he is and seeing a super group of yearlings and weanlings at Windward Stud sired
by Rooster, Polo Ranch thought he would be a great addition to Grays Starlight. The most remarkable
aspect of Rooster's career is that he is a leading sire of reining horses without the stallion owner
training large numbers of the offspring. Hollywood Dun It, Topsail Whiz, Shining Spark and Custom
Crome all have had hundreds of their offspring professionally trained for reining. Polo Ranch has sold
the Rooster offspring as yearlings and they are shown in cutting, reining, reined cowhorse and he also
produced 2 AQHA world champion calf roping horses and the 2008 AQHA Superhorse who also was
the 2008 AQHA world champion senior heading horse.
His Dam is Smart Chiclet - Read her story: (told by Jody Hannagan - Owner of Smart Chiclet)
Chiclet's history. "We bought her dam Docs Jessica James without knowing she had a great produce
record from a customer, they did not know it either. She was the 3rd leading producing dams sired by
Doc Wilson with get winning over $80,000. They needed to sell her and she was a really well made,
good minded mare by Doc Wilson, an own son of Doc Bar. After breeding her to Oh Cay Quixote and
having a Congress res champion in the non pro cutting we bred her to Smart Chic Olena after seeing
him perform in the open reining at the Congress. He was one of the prettiest lopers and biggest
stoppers in the class. My father and mother got caught in a Tornado in Whitesboro, TX taking 2 mares
to breed to Chic. He stopped at a gas station and was pelted with hale. One of the mares was Docs
Jessica James. Chiclet was born and was snorty and quick. But the thing about her is that once she was
broke, she WAS BROKE. She is a very intelligent horse. We started her on cattle after she was broke. I
have never ridden one so feely, physical and quick as her. She is incredibly light and always wanted to
stop. She naturally stayed behind the bridle with her head always below the pole. Chiclet was very cowy
but I pulled her out of training at the beginning of her 3 yr old year and sent her to Ken Eppers to train
for reining. She was broke and ready to go in July. Actually she got a month off before the futurity just to
keep her feeling good and sound. I showed her 2 times her 3 yr old year and she was reserve in the Ltd
non pro and 3rd in the non pro at the NRCHA futurity. She was also a finalist at the NRHA Futurity in the
Ltd Non Pro placing 8th and the Non Pro placing 18th. As a 4 year old she was Res in the Non pro at
the NRCHA Derby, Novice horse non pro NRHA Derby-3rd and South of the Border Novice Non Pro
Champion. She rarely went into the show arena without winning a paycheck. I retired her went I got
married and had children myself. Chiclet's first foal was a colt by Oh Cay Quixote, my sister Mary's
stallion. I named him Oh Cay Smart Alec and he went on to be an NCHA multiple aged event finalist
with earnings near $50,000. Her second foal, a full brother to Roobix Cube was Good Ole Mr Wilson.
He won the Scottsdale Classic with Andrea Fappani marking a 227. He is currently showing with NRHA
earnings near $30,000. Another full brother is Smart Lil Roos who is in training this year for the NRHA
futurity with Mike Flarida.
I think you will see Smart Chiclet's offspring in the NRHA, NRCHA, and NCHA arenas as another 2yr old
and 2 yearlings are in great hands for these events. She is a great mare and I think will be one of the
leading dams one of these days." Jody
Roobix Cube aka " Roob"
As many of you know we were looking for a Sire to breed to Seekershine aka "Abbie" this year. When Bettie first saw Lil Rooster she was so impressed by his eyes, his color and his personality that she started watching him over the week at the NRHA Futurity. She spoke with Steve regarding his pedigree and he agreed he was on the top of our list to bid on at the sale. When he came into the sale arena everyone took notice. When the final bid was done we held the top bid at $20,000.00. Roobix Cube was the second highest selling horse in the Marketsale. Since that moment he has not let us down. We bred him to 4 mares and he covered all 4 with out any re-breeds. After we bred him Steve started to ride him. "Lil Rooster" was eager to learn and very willing to please. Not only did he try to understand what was asked of him, he performed the task with alot of ability. Check back for updates on his progress.
